I am a 28 year old Veteran. I am currently living with my mother, who is struggling to make ends meet. I cannot afford my own home or apartment. I do not even have a job because I do not fit the “specific Criteria” needed for any jobs. Barely anyone does here, and those who do, are barely hanging on. My only permanent gift from my time in the military seems to be my permanent spine injury from C-7 to T-6. Veterans Affairs has ignored my plea but do not mind asking me for money, money I do not have. 3 Herniated Disks and 2 slipped disks plus permanent nerve damage that has caused my fingers to remain numb. I can’t lift 40 pounds without going to the hospital.

The hypocrisy is glaring: if a twenty-something educated person has colored hair and piercings, the media can dismiss the whole movement. But if a 60 year old woman from Georgia wears a 3 pointed patriot’s hat with tea bags dangling everywhere, she’s part of a serious political movement.
- Brother-in-law laid off in 2009 & has 3 kids to support. Been on 2 interviews with 100’s of resumes sent.
- Friend had to have emergency surgery 12 days before her insurance kicked in & now owes $60k+ to hospital.
- Another friend lives without heat or hot water b/c she cannot afford it.
- Another friend lives in his car. Lost his job and then his house.
- Wife and I moving into family member’s house b/c I got laid off in April 2011 & we can no longer afford rent & bills. We are 36 and 40 with college degrees, no health insurance, and no savings left.
